Don’t Take Any Wooden Nickels – Sticker

For this project we were tasked to create a sticker that represents/features a particular phrase of our choice.

The phrase chosen is ” Don’t Take Any Wooden Nickels ” an old phrase that my dad would say all the time. It started in the 1920’s that means don’t get tricked by a conman giving out fake wooden coins.

To represent this origin the sticker was made to look like those old wooden coins that has the phrase stamped on the coin, in old western font to allude the old origin of the phrase. Resulting in this final sticker design.

To get to this final design multiple stages in the process was taken. First was sketching multiple ideas for the sticker.

The next step was to vector chosen ideas in Adobe Illustrator to see how it would look digitally and test out shape language, textures and form. Colors were also considered in this stage, the second option was picked.

The next stage was to pick the best design out of these 3 and create vairations in color and typography.

The second option was chosen in terms of typography which resulted in the final design

The goal of this project was to create a sticker based on a phrase. To also practice using illustrator skills in shapes, text to path, strokes, textures and prepare/ create the cut line for design to be printed as a sticker.
