New Deal for Animation

For this project, we were tasked to make a poster that you will see on advertisements on a particular issue of our choosing.

Which with further thought and brainstorming the chosen subject was the recent at the time hashtag #newdealforanimation. Which was a movement that demanded better working conditions ad better pay for Animators and artists all around the industry. They demanded a ” new deal for animation ” or for employees and other artists to have equal pay to their live action counterparts. And equal pay on every streaming site, with companies treating streaming like the new normal at places like Hollywood and Burbank, California.

This was represented with my hand with a pencil and sketch texture reaching for a dollar. The message is also represented by the poster’s slogan “ there are people behind these cartoons, shouldn’t animation be worth more? “

This slogan says exactly what the message is: that there are real people like animators, storyboard artists, cartoonists Special Effects Artists, etc. That create the animated works that millions of people love. So shouldn’t they get the same amount of pay and appreciation for their work as their live action counterparts? Shouldn’t imagination and creativity be worth more in pay and the dollar than it is in people’s hearts and passion? Why do live action actors for all the great they have done to get more pay for people that create animation? Why are they put on a lower priority for the same or more amount of work?

For representing this very real issue here is the final poster design:

Here is also a mock up of what it would look like on a street sign:

With this idea and in the process of designing, below is the research/inspiration college, used as inspiration for example the color palette, text, slogan and tone of the final poster design.
