Rauschenberg Painting

For the Rauschenberg Painting we were tasked to create our paintings on a particular issue in the style of Robert Rauschenberg. Where we had to work back to front combining painting and printed photos to represent a particular issue. And have to have one 3D element. This was a great project to blend multiple pieces of media to represent an issue by mixing and blending paint and photos together to grab the attention and emotions of the viewer.

The issue which this painting was about is the 2019 Hong Kong protests which was a big and recent issue in the time that this was painted, in 2019. It being a topical issue and its geography in the world is why this issue was decided. The photos chosen were in the protests, map, call for action for Trump by protestors and the skyline of the city.

Painted on to blend with the background and connect to each other and the central theme and call to action. That’s why the quote which was original for this project “ China hides us because we stand out “. And the connecting artwork where the ocean in the skyline was expanded through more of the board and transitions to the next photo. And the sky of the skyline transitioning to the map photo where it is covered by the 3D asset of the Chinese flag representing what the protests are protesting against.
